What are the court prices in Tower Hamlets?
This website lists all current tennis court prices for all venues, up to and including 6th April 2025, after which a price increase takes effect.
Courts at Bethnal Green Gardens, Kind Edward Memorial Park, Poplar Recreation ground, Ropemakers Field, St. Johns Park, Victoria Park, and Wapping Gardens are priced at £5 per court at off-peak times and £7 per court at peak times from 6th April 2025.
The courts at Bethnal Green Gardens and St Johns are floodlit but we do not charge more for these, allowing you to play tennis in the evening in the winter months for the same price as you do in summer.
Concession rates are available for juniors under 16 or seniors over 65 upon evidence of eligibility being provided by email to hello@courtside.uk.
Low-income households, individuals who are unemployed and/or players with a disability who are seeking to play but face difficulties in doing so should contact hello@courtside.uk.
How are prices set?
The Borough of Tower Hamlets Council sets all prices and reviews them annually.
Why have prices increased?
Courtside, a Community Interest Company, operates in order to safeguard the future of these public tennis courts, in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council and the Lawn Tennis Association. Since leisure is not a Local Authority statutory service, and future funding cannot be guaranteed, capital must be raised for ongoing maintenance and for the future upgrading/replacement of surfaces, nets, fences and gates. Prices are set at a level that reflect good value whilst enabling the long-term sustainability of these much-valued public facilities.
Where does the extra money go?
Additional income raised contributes towards reinvestment in public tennis facilities at across Tower Hamlets. It also helps us develop our ‘Try-Tennis’ school outreach programme which has already brought free tennis sessions to 2,700 pupils between January and April 2025, in addition to allowing us to run a host of free tennis sessions for various community groups.
